The UBC Thunderbirds Baseball program, as part of Phase II of their complex, will be building a $9 million dollar stadium on the present site of Thunderbird Baseball Park. The orientation of the stadium will be switched so the stadium shell sits on the berm of the present centerfield fence and the stadium entrance will be at the corner of 16th Avenue and East Mall on the UBC Vancouver campus. It will include 1,000 permanent seats and with a capacity of 2,500 spectators for larger events. An all artificial turf surface, portable game mound, lights, clubhouse, concessions, bathrooms, scoreboard, retail store, and BBQ area will make it one of the best baseball facilities in Canada.
Fundraising efforts have begun with donor recognition opportunities within the stadium. Please contact Terry McKaig at firstname.lastname@example.org or 604-816-4535 for more info.
Future Use and Tenants
With the inclusion of a removable pitching mound, the playing surface can completely adapt for all age groups. The pitching mound, bases, and outfield fence can all be placed at regulation distances based on age group playing. The new stadium will also have the ability to fit two little league fields at once thereby increasing the opportunities to participate.
UBC will now become a destination location for local, provincial, national, and international games and championships.
