UBC Thunderbirds Baseball Classes, Programs, and Events

These are the baseball programs for the Winter of 2020.

UBC Thunderbird Minors and Majors Baseball Development Program

WINTER SESSION

The winter Minors and Majors Development program is where we will shift our focus towards getting each player ready for their season. Pitchers will be simulating in game competition, and learning how to throw multiple pitches for strikes. Towards the end of the program we will have pitchers throwing live to hitters, and putting their skills to the test. By the end of the program, hitters will be fully prepared to face live pitching and have a successful season. Young hitters need exposure to as many live at-bats as possible to feel comfortable at the plate, and we will create a competitive atmosphere to give them an advantage in April. Defensively, players will begin to work on team oriented skill work which includes: double plays, cuts and relays, and communication.

  • Led by UBC Baseball’s head instructors and varsity athletes
  • Sessions split into 8-10 year old (Minors) and 11-12 year old (Majors) age groups
  • 10-week program
  • Participants will acquire a better understanding of the game, their athleticism, and true potential as baseball players
  • Lesson plans that will help improve all aspects of the game, from throwing, in fielding, outfielding, pitching, catching, and hitting
  • incorporating live at-bat and pitching simulations sessions
  • Tailored for both experienced and inexperienced players
  • UBC Baseball New Era hat and Under Armour t-shirt included for new participants

Player Performance – Intro to Swing Design

The 2020 baseball season is almost here, and before you know it your team’s season opener will be upon you and pitchers and catchers will be reporting. UBC Baseball Player Performance will be hosting a 4-day hitting camp for both baseball and softball players with the goal to give athletes instant feedback on their swings by using Blast Motion data, HitTrax data, and K-Vest data. This is a great opportunity to know where your swing is to begin the New Year and pre-season practices.

About our Technology:

K-Vest:

This product is a vest a hitter wears to bring quick and easy biomechanical measurement and biofeedback training to baseball and softball. This product allows our Player Performance Coaches to measure the player’s body to evaluate athleticism, look for imbalances or weaknesses, and design a player development plan for improvement. The most important component in hitting is the body and this technology allows us to measure, assess, coach and train a player’s body in 3D.

Hit -Trax:

This product measures batted ball metrics such as Exit velocity – is the observed speed the ball leaves the bat (MPH); Launch angle – is the angle at which the ball leaves the bat. A positive launch angle means the ball is going up, negative is down, and zero is level to the ground and Distance – is the distance the ball would travel if hitting on a field

Blast:

This piece of technology measures bat kinematics such as Bat speed – is the observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat; Peak Hand Speed – is the observed maximum speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge; and Attack Angle – is the angle of the bat’s path, at impact, relative to horizontal. A positive value indicates swinging up, and a negative value indicates swinging down, where zero is perfectly level.

This camp is designed to analyze results that really matter to get players to the next level.

Analyzed. Designed. Examined. Delivered.
